Rebel lawyer, Conner Malloy has made a career out of defending the destitute and downtrodden. But nothing prepares him for the stubborn little land heiress who will lie, cheat and steal to stop her mother from marrying the man she suspects murdered her father. The Texas filly is everything he never knew he wanted... until now.

Katherine Appleton wants justice, even if it means bribing the sheriff to bust Conner out of jail, compromising her relationship with her fiancé and tricking his cousin into helping her. Conner is nothing like the kind, quiet doctor she’s engaged to, and she finds the outlaw cousin way too lovable for her own good. When she’s unwittingly forced to introduce her rebellious lawyer as her betrothed, she ropes them together in a lie that draws them down a passionate and dangerous trail to the truth.

Marshall and Fort Worth, Texas - 1880

When you combine fire and dynamite, the explosion is positively earth shattering!

Attorney Connor Malloy doesn't take kindly to losing, especially when the client is innocent, which is why he decides to break his client out of jail. Three sticks of dynamite might have been a tad too much, though. Wanting to make sure that the sheriff's deputy survived the blast, Connor goes back into the jail, and his client heads for the proverbial hills. Which is why Connor now finds himself sitting in the jail, awaiting the arrival of his cousin David to pay his bail. Only it isn't David who arrives with the bail money, it is an angel with a viper's tongue who claims to be his cousin's fiancée. Wondering what Katherine Appleton wants from him, Connor is shocked when she explains that she wants him to help her stop her mother's wedding. According to Katherine, the man about to marry her mother had her father murdered in the hope of obtaining his money and his land. Connor's interest is piqued, since in addition to helping her, he can make a nice tidy sum by returning a stolen stallion to his rightful owner. Connor should know better than to think that anything involving a woman could be easy.

Katherine Appleton wishes there was another way to stop her mother's wedding, but there isn't. No one believes that her future stepfather is the man who murdered her father. If her fiancé would have pried himself away from the hospital and helped her, she would not have to resort to trickery and deceit. Being conniving isn't exactly her style, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and anyone seeking Connor Malloy's help has to be desperate. Katherine is convinced that he is just as lawless as the clients he defends, and she isn't likely to change her mind. She and Connor head to Fort Worth to stop her mother's wedding, but somewhere along the way an attraction sparks between them that Katherine cannot deny. Fortunately, he is a braying jackass, as long as she can ignore his handsome looks, her heart will be safe.

From the moment that Katherine and Connor meet, the sparks fly. These two get along like oil and water. Despite their clashing wills, they are remarkably alike in many ways. Both have tempers with a short fuse and are fiercely stubborn, but when they are together, the passion is explosive. The sexual tension between them is palatable from their first encounter. Not only are Katherine and Connor passionate individuals, they both have a strong sense of justice, though Connor's takes longer to come to the fore. As they learn the truth regarding her father's death, they discover that fire and passion are a force to be reckoned with, as well as a love that neither can deny.

Ms. Pironti weaves an unforgettable tale with characters who sparkle and a wry sense of humor that is woven throughout the story. For a romance that will have you rolling on the floor with laughter from the first page to the last, as well as running for a tall glass of ice water to douse the flames, be sure not to miss Kiss Me, Kat.
